ABOUT USSwahili Art Group

About Swahili Art Group

We are SWAHILI ART - a group of talented artists found at Themi Living Garden in Arusha, Tanzania. We are five young men who met during our training as young artists. Interested in building something out of our talent, we decided to form the group "SWAHILI ART” in 2017. The objective of our group was never solely about making a living. We also want to make a difference in our community and change the perception of African art globally.

When forming SWAHILI ART, we were looking to differentiate ourselves from typical African artwork. Most African artwork addresses the Maasai theme.
Therefore, we at SWAHILI ART decided to step out of the stereotypical box and created something different. Each of us specialized in a different style of drawing. This is what makes SWAHILI ART unique. It is not just the old story of traditional paintings; it is way more than that.

Our paintings are modern art depicted. We draw in a realistic or colourful way on a canvas. We use acrylic, oil and pastel paint.
By using different kinds of techniques, we are able to make high quality, beautiful drawings with a very realistic and detailed appearance.

That's why sometimes I used dismantled dry cell batteries and tooled the carbon for use in drawing. At this time, I met my mentor and learned how to use pencil and colours for realistic paintings. I wanted to find my own style and be innovative so I started colouring my pictures.
